Going to the grocery store is not one of my favorite things to do. Actually, I don’t like it at all.
So anytime I can get out of it, I do.
I just moved to the city (a suburb of Dallas), but for 16 years I lived in a small town in Colorado.
We had WalMart and a couple of small grocery stores to choose from for groceries.
And I had heard from my city friends (I grew up in the Dallas area) about curbside pickup. But my little town didn’t have it yet. Not surprising. We were always the last to get new things.
Then the pandemic hit and people couldn’t go shopping because they were under quarantine. One of the small grocery stores started offering curbside service to compete.
I tried it out and wasn’t impressed. I waited over 30 minutes for them to come out to my car and they would substitute things without me knowing (until I got home). Not cool.
I gave it 2 tries and decided it wasn’t for me.
Then my local WalMart started offering curbside pickup. The bigger WalMarts had already been doing this in bigger cities so the kinks were worked out.
I decided to give curbside pickup another shot. And I’m so glad I did.
WalMart has it down to a science. It’s awesome.
*** By the way, this is not a sponsored post. They aren’t paying me to say this. I just love it and wanted to share.

6 Reasons I Love Buying Groceries With Curbside Pickup
1. I save money
By only shopping for what I need and for what is on my list, I save money.
I’m not in the store looking at cute home decorations or what’s new in the bakery. I get what I need and move on.
This is huge because I always add stuff to my cart that wasn’t on my list when I’m in the store. If you are guilty of this, and it’s killing your budget, you should try buying groceries with curbside pickup.
After all, the service is free with a $35 order with WalMart.
2. I save time
I can spend hours a week roaming around WalMart, looking at all the new stuff. It also can take time standing in line when it’s busy.
But with curbside pickup, it takes me about 10 minutes to order on the app. Then a couple of hours later, I drive up to the spot, tell them I’m here and they bring out the food in less than 5 minutes.
So that’s 15 minutes to shop for a weeks worth of groceries. I don’t count commute time because I would have to do that either way.
I saved myself atleast 45 minutes of time every time I buy groceries with curbside pickup. That’s amazing.
Story time: One morning my husband called me and said he needed some food for a work party that afternoon. I had a busy day, but I was still covered. I ordered the food on the app that morning, and he went by and picked it up before the party that afternoon. Easy, peasy.
3. I don’t like shopping
I might be the only woman out there that doesn’t like shopping. I know. I’m weird.
But I don’t like shopping. Not food shopping. Not clothes shopping.
The only shopping I kinda like is shopping for home decor. But that’s about it.
So when I can skip shopping and do something else instead, I’m all for it.
And while grocery shopping in some form is a must each week, I prefer to make it as painless as possible.
4. I don’t have to see anyone
This is a big one for me. I’m what they call an introvert.
And when I go to WalMart (especially in the small town), I always see people I know.
But I can buy groceries with curbside pickup in my pajamas, if I choose. I mean, I wouldn’t suggest it because that’ll be the day you get a flat tire or get into a car wreck.
I can listen to my music and wait for the person to come out and deliver my groceries.
No socializing needed.
5. You don’t have to take your kids in the store.
I would have loved to have this service when I had little kids at home.
I would have paid extra for this service. And it would have been worth it!
The only thing you have to do is pull up and they bring out your groceries. No one has to get out of the car!
You do have to make sure your trunk area is clear so they can put the stuff in the back. That’s it.
If you saw my previous post, you know that one of my 10 grocery shopping tips is to not take your kids shopping with you.
So if you have kids that you have to take with you grocery shopping, you NEED this service.

6. The app saves your favorites and previous choices for later
Once you’ve used the app and purchased one time, it keeps those items on the app so you can choose them again without searching.
This is really convenient because we buy many of the same grocery items over and over, every week.
It saves time when ordering everything online.
Of course, not everything is perfect about groceries with curbside pickup. There are some downsides.
In my opinion, the downsides aren’t bad enough to make me stop using this service.
But they are worth mentioning anyway.
3 Downsides to Grocery Shopping With Curbside Pickup
1. You don’t get to pick your produce
This is a big deal to some people. You only get to pick the amount of produce, not the condition of it.
So if your shopper doesn’t pay attention or doesn’t care, you could get some ugly produce.
2. You have to spend a certain amount of money
At WalMart, you have to spend $35 to use the service. Most of the time, that’s easy to do. Especially on weekly groceries.
If you don’t need to spend that much, you might just want to run in quick and grab what you need. You can go thru the automated checkout to save time (hopefully).
3. You have to think ahead
Using the app can take several hours. Usually there’s atleast 4 hours between the time you order and when you pick up.
The app gives you different times for pick up, but it’s never right away. You have to give them time to process your order and see if there will be any subsitutions.
So if you don’t have time for that, you’ll have to go in and shop the old fashioned way.
They do have an Express option for under 2 hours, but I haven’t tried it before so I can’t tell you how it works.
WalMart is not the only retailer that offers curbside pickup. It’s just the one I use.
So if you aren’t a big WalMart fan, that’s ok. Target offers it. So do alot of other grocery stores.
But if you haven’t tried it, consider this your wakeup call. Try it this week!
And let me know how it goes.
I hope these 5 reasons have convinced you to give it a try.
Good luck!
