Sewing is a homemaking skill that goes back generations. My mother and grandmother made clothes and lots of other things from scratch for their families.
This skill did not get passed on to me as a child. Sure, I know how to sew on a button or a rip in fabric. But that is where my knowledge stops.
In fact, my teenage son can run a sewing machine better than I can because he learned how to in school.
